SUE HEMSLEY CERAMICS
Ceramist and Artist
Sue works in ceramics and has extensive experience exhibiting and teaching.
She studied Fine Art (Sculpture) at Loughborough College of Art and Design, going on to achieve an MA in Art and Design Education at Norwich Universityof the Arts. Following her Fine Art studies she was introduced to working with ceramics and went on to employment as a production thrower at the prestigious Holkham Pottery in Norfolk.
She retains a preference for throwing as a means of ‘sketching out’ initial forms. Her ideas change and develop through de-constructing and re-constructing with hand-building and sculptural processes, creating vessels that reflect the geology and heritage of local landscapes.
In addition to her own creative practice, Sue teaches classes for Medway Adult and Community Education, as well as privately in her studio where she leads both ‘taster workshops’ in hand building and throwing, and bespoke courses to develop individual creativity and skills.
