Sophie Jongman
Artist
I am a self‑taught artist whose creative journey began over twenty years ago in a day centre for people with mental health challenges. What started as a form of therapy quickly became a vital part of my life — a way to express, to heal, and to connect. After leaving the institution fifteen years ago, I continued to make art independently, building a practice that has grown with me through every stage of my life.
My early work explored ceramic sculpture, glass design, painting, and jewellery making, each medium offering a different way to understand myself and the world around me. Over time, painting became my main focus — a space where colour, emotion, and imagination meet with the most freedom.
Art isn’t just a solitary act for me; it’s woven into the music I love, the banter I share with friends and fellow artists, and the lively conversations that unfold on social media. Creativity has been both my anchor and my adventure, shaping not only what I make, but how I live.
