I Woke Up in the Woods Again

Thanet artist David Nettleingham is trying to see the wood for the trees in this collection of paintings that examine feelings of social and cultural disorientation, and a desire to slow the world to the pace of the woodland. The works play with texture, foregrounding and repetition to create images that are both an escape and a point of connection; a hiding place and a space of exposure.

    Between Two Worlds
    Nadiia Rom

Between Two Worlds is an art project born from the experience of forced displacement and life lived in transition.

“After the forced displacement, I exist somewhere in the middle: between the past that still hurts and the present that demands adapting - between languages, cultures, and people. I am making sense between what’s already lost and what is being built. This project aims to artistically comprehend and to cover that special form of existence - the life in-between two worlds.”

The exhibition presents a series of oil paintings in which colour, texture, and composition translate the inner landscapes of migration. Fragments of memory, particles of reality, and emotional states merge on canvas, capturing experiences of splitting, waiting, instability, and uncertainty, alongside openness, hope, and the search for new roots. When words fall short, art becomes the primary language of expression.

Complementing the visual works are short essay texts written in both English and Ukrainian. As English is still part of Nadiia’s learning journey, writing functions not only as an artistic practice but also as a means of integration into a new world. The texts are shaped by everyday observations, conversations with fellow immigrants, and reflections on inner emotional states. Together, image and text invite viewers to witness the transition between two realities.

Between Two Worlds marks the final presentation of this project, offering audiences a space to experience the layered emotional and psychological realities of displacement through both visual and written forms.

The exhibition is part of the Month of Ukrainian Art in Medway, a series of exhibitions by Ukrainian artists organised by the IDENTITY Community, running from March 5th to April 7th at Halpern Pop Rochester and The Halpern Gallery Chatham.

    The Beauty in the Ordinary
    Yekatierina Bondar

“The Beauty of the Ordinary is a visual story of inner transformation and a way of sharing how I see the world - a world where even the ordinary is filled with diverse beauty, something quietly magical and deeply inspiring. While many pass by, I choose to look closer, to look within. It is an attempt to notice vivid shades in unexpected places and to invite the viewer, if only for a moment, to see in the same way.”

The exhibition brings together three creative periods that reflect different stages of Yekatierina’s self-discovery. The first period immerses itself in abstract forms inspired by mould textures - something that usually evokes discomfort. For her, this was, and still is, an entire universe: a space of chaos in which the self-search began.

The second period moves towards more recognisable imagery. Fruits appear in the works as symbols of hidden emotional states and feelings longing to be released. Only a part of this series will be shown, yet it remains deeply significant. This stage speaks of relative stability, but also of inner reserve and the tension of the unspoken.

The third period is the most personal. These are painterly fragments of memories, emotions, and vulnerability: an open conversation without protection, the bare presence of lived experience.

Working with oil, acrylic, and pastel, the artist creates a space of quietness, warmth, and attentive contemplation. This exhibition is an invitation to feel a small part of Yekatierina Bondar’s world and, perhaps, to rediscover beauty within one’s own everyday life.

The exhibition is part of the Month of Ukrainian Art in Medway, a series of exhibitions by Ukrainian artists organised by the IDENTITY Community, running from March 5th to April 7th at Halpern Pop Rochester and The Halpern Gallery Chatham.

    Living Resonance
    Nataliia Revoniuk

Living Resonance is a process in which painting evokes an emotional response shaped through the interaction between the artwork and the viewer’s inner state.

The exhibition presents a selection of works that are part of a long-term artistic exploration of resonance — not as a fixed effect, but as a living, ever-changing process that reveals itself differently to each viewer.

Shaped by more than two decades of travel, embodied experience, and deep inner practice, these works emerge from a state of focused inner presence.

The paintings create a visual space in which a personal response can arise naturally.

Across different countries and cultural contexts, the same works have elicited diverse reactions — from quiet contemplation to intense emotional experiences. Living Resonance embraces this variability, recognising that resonance is formed not only by the artwork itself, but also by the viewer’s inner state, experience, and sensitivity.

The exhibition invites viewers into a shared space of presence and observation, offering the possibility of experiencing a state that extends beyond the surface of the canvas.

The exhibition is part of the Month of Ukrainian Art in Medway, a series of exhibitions of Ukrainian artists organised by the IDENTITY Community, running from March 5th to April 7th at Halpern Pop Rochester and The Halpern Gallery Chatham.
