“I make pictures using chemical photography. I like placing an object on photographic paper and seeing what happens when i shine a light on it. I’m not averse to scanning the resulting print and digitally manipulating it but feel a different, perhaps more limiting process is at work. The Chatham Creative Laboratory concept arose from my sense that making chemical photographic images is so easy that other people could not resist exploring and experimenting in the way that I do, but with different results. I tend to work in themes and projects, such as collecting bits of broken glass form a particular site, or imperfect replications, or distortions, or fragmentations or whatever takes my fancy. My darkroom is avalible to anyone who wants to experience the excitement.” – Chris Van Beck
